World Premiere of Ode to Mourning Doves
Gabriella, selected as a young emerging artist by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, was invited to participate in the Michael Nesbitt Composers Institute alongside five other emerging Canadian composers. As a part of the program, Gabriella and her colleagues learned the ins and outs of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and were given the opportunity to have their orchestral compositions premiered at the opening concert of the Winnipeg New Music Festival 2026.
Gabriella’s work, Ode to Mourning Doves, explores the mourning dove’s call alongside other bird-like melodies that she created, all with the intention of recreating the feeling of a spring morning.

In addition to the concert on January 21st, 2026, Gabriella spoke at a pre-concert panel alongside her colleagues from the Michael Nesbitt Composers Institute, and answered questions from the audience at the post-concert Q&A.
